Very pleased with this carseat
I did lots of research on carseats before buying one for my new baby and of course, Graco Snugride brand was a top contender, especially for the price. I believe the Chicco carseat got higher reviews but I think it's also more expensive. I have a baby girl, but we bought this particular model because it's not too "boyish" even though it has blue in it and figured if we have another baby, it could work for either sex.
I thought the instructions for installing the car seat base were confusing but my husband popped it in right away! I think it's just that the LATCH system is confusing but you'll find that with any brand's car seat base system. Please note you should install the seat in the MIDDLE of the back seat not behind one of the front seats because it's the safest position. If you install it behind one of the front seats, you won't be able to push the seat back very far for those people who need leg room in the front!
I'd also looked into getting a convertible-type of car seat that could be used for a lot longer than these infant seats but now I can't imagine not being able to just move the baby undisturbed in and out of the car, especially when they're always sleeping in their car seat! Having to take a baby in and out of a car seat would be a nightmare!
My major CON about the Graco Snugride seat is the handle. What a pain it is to have to push the red buttons on both sides of the handle in order to adjust the handle to different positions. When trying to get the handle adjusted while in the car, you have to crawl into the backseat and get into a position where you can get a good grip on both sides of the handle and push both buttons in all the way, at the same time, and then pull the handle bar up or down....and you have to do this all at once It's tricky and the buttons don't give easily! I wish there was just one button to push on the top of the handle, which would release the handle. That's the number one complaint about the Graco seat!
I also never used the brown headrest that comes with the seat. It just looks cheap and the material doesn't seem very comfy--it seems rough. I bought a Kiddopotomus car seat insert that's super comfy and cradles my newborn in a soft material and it works very well in this seat. The canopy on the carseat has come in handy and moves into different positions easily.
Oh, and don't bother with the expensive travel system made to go with the Graco carseat....I bought a Snap N Go and it's WONDERFUL...user-friendly and inexpensive and the car seat just snaps right on the frame.
Overall, I'm very happy with this car seat.
